I am writing a report of the industry and how it can be applied to the newspaper industry. I will post it once I return and complete it.

I was driving through Utah while visiting a client just over a year ago, and I saw a brilliant billboard for a financial services company.

It said:

“Over the course of their life, the average American eats 8 spiders while sleeping”
-Sometimes we’re too honest

This company is willing to tell the truth even if it hurts a little. And I loved it. I take that exact same philosophy in life and my blog. Sometimes the truth hurts, but it needs to be said. My goal in my blog is to tell it like I see it.

As a Director of Marketing and Innovation for a Newspaper group in the Midwest I speak to a lot of businesses, and I see some great ideas and innovation in small business, but I also see a lot of stupidity and huge egos. Often the smallest business have the biggest egos. Now don’t get me wrong, and ego is a good thing, as long as it doesn’t get in the way of your business. When you let your ego run your business, it closes you off from any source of innovation because you think you have all the answers.

Let me spell it out simply…

If you had all the answers… you wouldn’t still be a small business.
